The Orchestra
There is a book by Richard Powers called Galatea 2.2 in which the main character (who's pretty much the author) is made "artist in residence" in a technology center in a big university. While he should be writing, he finds himself distracted by a fascinating project by a computer science professor, and can't get himself to write as he normally would, leaving strewn behind him hints and whispers of novels that he can't bring himself to write. The one that caught my eye was called The Orchestra which was to be "A postmodern, multiframed narrative remake of Renaissance epic poetry. One hundred instrumentalists, each an anthology of stories, tours the globe." I tried to write it for NaNoWriMo last November, but I am not a real writer and could not get it finished/started. I've recently started a bet with my girlfriend that I can write three things of some substance every week, and that she can do the same. Writing these "orchestral vignettes" could be very fun. I'll post here the ones that are worth posting, as well as anything else I feel like posting, whether part of the bet or not.
